The Captain

Fishing the Gulf of Mexico has been my passion for over fifteen years. Starting out with a 21 ft. center console my buddies and I would load the boat with grouper, king mackerel, cobia and several other species of fish. My desire to become a captain started out with a trip to the keys several years ago with my father Andy and good friend Tim. Although we had a memorable experience, I had come away with the thought in my mind that this is what I wanted to do. Fishing had been breed in my blood with my ancestors fishing the Adriatic Sea many years ago.. Growing up in Arizona somewhat limited my fishing experience to lake and stream fishing and it wasn't until I moved to Florida in 1983 that I had a chance to experience the Gulf and the Keys. Over the years I have had he opportunity to fish various locations in Mexico including Cabo San Lucas and San Carlos. All throughout the state of Florida including the Keys, Cay Sal Bank Bahamas, the Atlantic from Stuart up to St. Augustine and the Gulf from Panama City down thru Florida Bay.

Highlights from those years of fishing include tournament wins on both coast with the most memorable being the "DOWN THE HATCH" tournament that I fished with Capt. George Locke out of Ponce Inlet in 1996 on the vessel " JUST FOR FUN". This three day event was highlighted with a hurricane 400 miles off-shore, and the highest number of sailfish releases I personally have ever experienced. With a three day total of 12 hookups and 8 tagged sails and a three way tie for first place, I was elated to know that the tie breaker would be the first fish caught in the tournament which happen to be my first sail that was hooked up at 8:38 am, the fish that would win the boat $45,000. The second most memorable trip was with the Hawaiian Free Dive Spear fishing Team of 2001. These guys were full of surprises and unbelievable in there skills. With a controversial first place, these guys took third place weighing in 168 lb. of fish for a six hour tournament, what a great team.

These days I have made my home port here on the Nature Coast at Hernando Beach. My time here is spent catering to those who love to fish and those who whish to learn the sport. Teaching the art of catching is a passion that I love to share, and to share this with today's youth only enhances the feeling. With my reputation in this community of catching fish and safety, you may find me operating other vessels in the area for some of the locals who put there trust in my experience. I am a US Coast Guard Certified Captain with certifications in First Aid and CPR, and a member of IGFA.

A few years ago I took up scuba diving to help discover what type of structure we normally fish here in the Gulf. This has opened up a whole new world to me and allowed me to gain a different prospective on the structure that we fish. Diving has also allowed me to see first hand the habits of these fish and how they adapt to today's environment.

Other interest include outdoor writing for WOODS N WATER Magazine that is distributed throughout Florida.  For over 25 years I have played guitar and sing in some of the local honky tonks. I also dabble in photography for which I take credit for all of the photos on this site.

My goal is to do my very best to make sure you have a pleasurable experience along with catching fish, whether you're an old salt or a rookie.
